Laurent Gbagbo was sworn in as Ivory Coast’s President on Saturday 4th December at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan.
The Contitutional council, the top legal body, citing alleged intimidation in the north of the country controlled by the rebels, annulled hundreds of thousands of votes on Friday and handed victory to Gbagbo.
Gbagbo’s swearing in was broadcast live on state television, and comes after the head of the West African country’s army declared his continued allegiance to Gbagbo late on Friday.
The president of the election commission who declared Alassane Ouattara winner of the election on Thursday is known to be a close friend of his.
