Galatasaray have reached a deal to sign former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua.
The Turkish club confirmed on their website that Drogba had agreed an 18-month deal.
The 34-year-old is currently on international duty for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Drogba – via his representatives, Sports PR Company, on Twitter – said: « I am looking forward to playing in the Champions League again. »
Galatasaray are through to the last 16 of the competition, where they face German side FC Schalke 04.
« The opportunity to play for this great club was an offer that I could not turn down, » added Drogba.
His representatives said he would join up with the Turkish side once the Africa Cup of Nations was over.
Didier Drogba will turn down a sensational approach to return to Chelsea and sign an 18-month contract with Galatasaray.
Sportsmail can reveal that Roman Abramovich gave the go-ahead last week to offer Drogba a deal until the end of the season, with an option for a further year.
Incredibly the talks were so far advanced that Chelsea were convinced that the man who delivered the European Cup last season was on the brink of signing before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
It also appears that after unexpectedly re-signing Ashley Cole on a one-year deal last week, Chelsea are embarking on a major charm offensive towards their supporters.
They were furious with Rafa Benitez yesterday as they drew 2-2 in the FA Cup at League One side Brentford at Griffin Park and chanted: ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’.
Terms on the deal had been offered to Drogba — who joined Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua in May — and there was a huge emotional pull to return to Stamford Bridge.
He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and his Chelsea career ended with that glorious finale against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena in May last year.
Chelsea offered him a year’s extension on reduced terms at the time, but Drogba, 34, decided to quit after lifting the Champions League.
Chelsea have been struggling without him this season and Fernando Torres, who scored yesterday, is still struggling for form.
Drogba, whose family still live in Surrey and whose children attend Chelsea’s academy, has been training with his old team-mates ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations and they initially began teasing him that he wanted to return.

The Milan head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, would gladly welcome Didier Drogba into his first team should the Rossoneri win the race for the Ivory Coast striker.
Reports in Italy have suggested the former Chelsea forward, 34, is ready to terminate his contract with Shanghai Shenhua after only seven months and return to Europe as soon as possible.
Juventus are also interested in the Champions League-winning striker, who is reportedly asking for €10m (£8.4m) for an 18-month contract in Italy – €4m for the rest of the current season and another €6m before June 2014.
Milan, meanwhile, have reached a financial impasse over a potential long-term loan deal for the Real Madrid midfielder Kaká, with Manchester City’s Mario Balotelli out of their price range at a reported fee of €28m.
« Champions of his [Drogba] calibre are very welcome, » said Allegri. « [Vice-president Adriano] Galliani will know if the deal is feasible.
« I’m calm, the club is just thinking about what could help us out and what we could do about it.
« A player like Drogba would certainly improve both the technical level and self-esteem of the team. We’ll see what the club are able to do, otherwise we’ll carry on as we are, looking to have a good second half of the season because that is our objective.

The Ivory Coast full-back, 31, joined on an initial two-year deal from Hamburg in August 2011.
Demel will celebrate putting pen to paper by taking on former club Arsenal tonight.
He said: “It’s really good for me and I’m really happy to have a new deal with West Ham.
“I’ve had a good year this season, and even last year was good, despite the fact that I was injured for so long and struggled a bit.
“I’m happy to be at West Ham and in the team. The lads are really good with me as are the people working for the club. I hope I will stay that long to play in the new stadium as well.
“Last year was kind of difficult because when I signed, I had pre-season, and then unfortunately I got injured really quickly and it was hard to come back afterwards.
“But right now I feel good. I had a pre-season, we worked hard and I have to thank the medical staff for the job they have done with me.
“I feel good and I’m quite happy with what I’m doing right now, but I know that I can do even more.”

AT least Gervinho will win one award this season after he was voted the Ivory Coast’s ‘ugliest’ player by his national team-mates.
The Arsenal flop also took home the worst haircut gong as a group including Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and Salomon Kalou were quizzed about their compatriots.
Gervinho is currently on African Nations Cup duty with the Elephants and grabbed the winning goal in his country’s 2-1 win over Togo in their opening group game.
But despite his heroics, Drogba and Co still pointed to the Gunners winger when asked who had the worst hair style in the team.
The group also mockingly mooted Gervinho when the topic of best-looking team-member cropped up.
However, the former Lille man can take comfort in being awarded the speediest member of the squad.
Man City ace Yaya Toure was awarded the laziest player, while former Tottenham hardman Didier Zokora was surprisingly labelled the most skilful.
