Dear President Obama;
I am writing to urge you to reconsider the American position on the electoral process in Ivory Coast. Indeed, the United States and the “international community” that it leads are gravely interfering with the institutions of Ivory Coast, thus seriously undermining African liberty and dignity. As a constitutional lawyer I believe that you could show more consideration for legality and the integrity of African national institutions. Furthermore, your own personal background should have prepared you for respect for democratic African institutions. Given the devastating impact that Western imperialism has had on the lives of millions of Africans – something that you observed first-hand, and wrote about in your books, it seems clear that the best political strategy is to support the legal institutions of Ivory Coast. Let it not be said that you added to the suffering of African people. Let it be said, instead, that you stood for righteousness, supported the Supreme Court of the Ivory Coast, and defended the right of the people of Ivory Coast to manage their own affairs.
Sincerely,
